How can new techniques in the digital humanities help us manage our cultural heritage?
The Australian Cultural Data Engine in collaboration with the Digital Archive of Queensland Architecture (DAQA) and Curtin University Library presents a collaborative workshop on storing, analysing and visualising the history of the built environment.

With COP27 underway and increasingly urgent warnings being regularly issued by the IPCC and other scientific organisations, there is increasing pressure on built environment professionals to produce ‘low carbon’, ‘net zero’ or even ‘net positive’ buildings. In this seminar Dr Paul Matthew will present some very general models of the environmental impact of residential buildings in Australia.

Join Dr Liz Brogden and Dr Kavita Gonsalves as they present the findings of the Climate Literacy and Action in Architecture Education project and seek feedback about how this project can support existing research and teaching in the School of Architecture at UQ.

Brief histories of two national parks reveal a range of design challenges in managing tourism experience and protecting biodiversity. We consider how designs for walking shape visitor experience of landscapes that are threatened by hiking shoes, climate and Instagram.

Water performance analysis provides an in-depth understanding of the impact of urban design on the urban water cycle and could inform the designing of water-sensitive buildings, precincts, and cities. This presentation gives an overview of the theoretical framework and methods used for collaborative water performance analysis. It also gives examples of multidisciplinary decisions to explore densification-water performance tradeoffs.

Following his lecture at the Sydney Opera House, Professor Jean-Louis Cohen will offer an in-person masterclass at The University of Queensland (UQ) for graduate students, doctoral candidates, early career academics and others interested in the work of architectural history.
