Mark was appointed to the UQ School of Architecture as an Industry Fellow in recognition of his deep experience in practice and his strong connections into the Queensland building industry. He a Past President of the Queensland Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects.

Mark enjoyed a successful architectural career of some 35 years including 15 years in his own practice and 8 years as Director of Architectus, a leading national practice. Several of his buildings were awarded prestigious RAIA State and National awards including most recently, the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, for which he was Project Director. During his career, Mark completed part-time Masters degrees in Management (Newcastle) and in Business (UQ). In 2015, he left practice to undertake a Masters in Sustainable Urban Development at the University of Oxford, UK, completing that degree in 2017. Mark’s PhD at the Bartlett Development Planning Unit (UCL), completed in 2020, examined energy justice for informal settlements in the global South with a slum in Dhaka as his case study.

Mark combines skills developed from many years at senior levels of industry with an extensive history of academic study and advanced research, including at world-leading universities. His School of Architecture role has involved teaching in Design, Practice and Construction, along with a continuation in research activity. Mark has been conducting research into optimal building procurement models for large building projects and into issues of urban energy poverty.
